Both "understand" and "conceive of " mean to know.

Both "co-worker" and "colleague" mean someone you work with.

Both "uninformed" and "ignorant" mean without knowledge.

Both "persuade" and "convince" mean to make someone believe something.

Both "first concern" and "priority" mean the most important thing.

Both "invent" and "conceive" mean to create something.

Believers in the flat Earth theory argue that Earth is not a globe but is shaped like a disc. This theory, apparently, defies science. Therefore, it is unlikely that people with a background in science are flat-earthers. N.B. This is a conditional sentence (Type 2). It describes an unlikely situation.

James and the speaker used to work together. Therefore, they were colleagues, or co-workers.

Living conditions are an indicator of how poor a country is. If a large number of people are living in unpleasant environments, the national poverty level is probably high. The government needs to make economic interests a priority, or the most important matter.

What a loving father! He definitely deserves a medal! He conceived, or came up with a plan to make his daughter's room a gallery!

Sometimes in our parents' minds, we remain children no matter how old we are now. Once in a while, we may feel they still conceive of, or think of, us as kids.

I don't think it is true that most teens consider global warming a joke. Only very few are indeed ignorant about, or not aware of, the crisis.
